Windows file deletion error

Almost everyone has come across a file that cannot be deleted by Windows although you know for a fact that the file is not necessary for any program to run correctly.  Although the message may vary, the simple fact that it’s annoying, like getting gum on the sole of your shoe.

In my case I had recently come across a torrent file that I had downloaded so I could download the newest release of Ubuntu (the download of the file had failed partway through). Unfortunately, using my current file unlocking program did not work and I was unable to find the file to manually remove it through command line. I came across a different program called simply ‘Unlocker’. Their website link is http://ccollomb.free.fr/unlocker/. I promptly downloaded and installed the program and upon running it, it informed me that no lock was found against the file but it could still take action against it. I selected to delete the file and clicked OK and it did so without problem.

Unlocker is easy to use. One, two, three, and you’re done. Here are the instructions I’ve copied right from the author’s website:

1. Simply right click the folder or file and select Unlocker

Right Click File - Unlocker

2. If the folder or file is locked, a window listing of lockers will appear

Unlocker Program Window

3. Simply click Unlock All and you are done!

The only ‘problem’ that could be found with this software is, at the time of this article,
there is no 64-bit Windows support.
